Anniversary of his death

I lost my dad last May 14, 2016. He was diagnosed with colon cancer and died a week later. It definitely has been a rough year and the first year anniversary is coming up. 

I just want to know what traditions/rituals/celebrations does everyone else do on the anniversary (or even bday) of their loved ones death AND how to deal with the feelings that come up during this time.
